Microsoft… Lame OR Conspiracy?

Over the years Microsoft has been known to release their products earlier than when they should (i.e. Windows 95 & 98). This flaw has been evident in the many bugs and exploits found in all Windows operating systems the day after the release. You’d think the software giant would learn from their mistakes and take the extra time to ensure the best quality product for their consumers.

With the popularity of the recent released “Google Maps,” Microsoft strove to be with the tech trends by creating “MSN Virtual Earth.” Virtual Earth combines satellite images of the earth’s surface allowing it’s viewers to view building, bridges, and anything exposed to the satellite’s view (in otherwords a copy of Google Maps).

Searching “Apple Computers” (Microsoft’s main competitors) on Google Maps will show you the Apple Computer Headquarters in all of it’s non-windows-lagging glory. But viewing the same location on MSN’s “Virtual Earth” you see nothing but an empty plot of land. Is this a coincidence?

On Virtual Earth if you search “Microsoft” you’ll be able to view the company in nice detail. My first impression was that this was a jab at Apple Computers directly. But after much viewing and research you’ll find that it’s just a matter of irresponsibility. Microsoft didn’t care enough to update important locations (such as London) to even be seen as existing. Even the Twin Towers in New York are seen standing as before 9/11.

Is this new “Virtual Earth” Microsoft’s dream of the earth? Perhaps it’s just a lack of responsibility due to their lust for the technology forefront? Masses of letters have been sent to Microsoft asking questions regarding this issue. However, none have been responded to. If there is a reply found, I’ll be sure to share this information.
